SEWARD!

A & J
River time! We live so close to the river. We will be spending the majority of our time sandy, muddy and wet.(I am in the process of developing some strategies for this!) I am so excited. The girls just love it there and so do I! Check out the baby green leaves on the trees! Yessss!
Siri is scooping (one of her favorite pastimes!) sand for Josh. {She loves him---in a major way!}

Sun in your eyes?

Getting a lesson from the MASTER!

Check out the student! Go Myka! Look at the rock as it is leaving her hand!! She is skipping a few, and attempting many!!!

Audrey and Josh stopped by for a few days to go on some flights and take a trip to Denali National Park. Of course they had to get in some good little girl time, some big girl time and some river time. It was awesome. We had great weather and fun adventures. They drove up in Josh's new baby (a Toyota 4runner). In a couple of trips to the land and Saunder's field the girls and I took care of the newness for him. (cereal, juicy pears, gum, mud, sand, fingerprints, Siri almost left him a boogie and it was Audrey's idea to eat ice cream in there!) AWESOME!! We plan on making a trip to Seward the 24th of this month to deliver Lucien's home! Too bad for us, we have to go to ---Seward! I'll post you some pictures! Yeah to Spring! I miss you all.

A lovely sunset picture taken by Josh (11:16 PM)

Sandhill Cranes in Saunder's field

These Swallows have made a home here in some vents in our place. They can't really be heard except through the vent in the bathroom and I am happy to report that we now are hearing chicks. They are such a fun bird to have around...amazing fliers and bird acrobats! They fly shockingly close to us which is quite thrilling for the girls.

I would love to take credit for these two photos but can't! Josh has an amazing camera and an amazing eye!

Try to click on this picture and get it a little larger. This eagle is tugging on a snack.

We have won the race to Alaska ahead of some of our feathered friends. They are all arriving now in droves! When we first came there were only a few birds now the skies, the beaches and my ears are filled with familiar sights and sounds.

There were two major (Talkeetna) events that happened since last blogging. First up, as a result of climbing season and the touristas arrival the Roadhouse will no longer be offering showers or laundry to locals. One might be wondering why this is a concern or note worthy news. Well, for the past couple of months this was the only place that offered such luxuries to those with out running water and the like. Tanner's Trading Post (the former clean up station) has been purchased by a new owner who is, to my delight, putting in a pub and brewery. This leaves a lot of people for lack of a better word DIRTY. This will all be resolved toward the end of June--- No Worries!!!!
The other event that got every one's attention was break up. We have had some amazing weather coupled with a nice cold winter and plenty of snow which created the ingredients for a nice ice dam. The Talkeetna was blocked by a huge dam where it met up with the Susitna and the Talkeetna actually flowed up stream for a couple of hours. No damage, lots of excitement!
It is beginning to green up around here and Myka will be in shorts soon enough! Until next time! I love you all!

Alaska Baby!
Nice view from the kitchen window eh?

Here are the summer digs! We have been so lucky! I took this picture today and so much snow has melted. This whole side was snow and there was a massive bank of it and ice in front of the hut. Everyday since our arrival it has been in the 60's. We are cleaning and getting organized. Chris has been up on a couple of tours and completed ground school. Myka eagerly awaits any outing as a chance to meet up with her friends and invariably she does!! We arrived on Sunday afternoon and I had to do some business on the computer so Monday morning we went for a walk and headed to the Roadhouse (which is right down the street) for some wi-fi. Of course..... Myka has some friends there and yells "Oh! My friends! I'm Back" I on the other hand was not prepared or excited and rather stunned at the position I was now in! I smiled, waved and just hustled her to the back hunched over the computer and left as quickly as possible! ( I am going to have to explain that one to Whitney!) Anyway... town is coming to life, many climbers are in and it is breakup... spring is up on deck! I miss you all and look forward to hearing how you are doing. (I just happened to bump into AUDREY and JOSH coming out of the Anchorage REI! Go figure that one out! What and awesome chance encounter.) We aren't getting any service at our place but I will have to come here (Roadhouse) from time to time to keep in touch. (What, my friends, am I going to to about that anyway? I mean I can't just sit here.... I might get thirsty and if I have a lovely cup up decaf....I 'll probably want a cinnamon roll to go with it! (Yep, read those books a few hundred times.... need to write one of my own!) Ha Ha Love to you ALL!
Shasta goes to Alaska!
Adventures North!
This is the sign forest in Watson Lake, Yukon. There are 60,000 signs posted here from all over the world. I had envisioned running laps for hours around this place but kind of forgot about the snow!!!
